CONGRATULATIONS TO THE
RIVER VALLEY ANIMAL ADVOCATES!
Congratulations are in order to the RVAA who won a $1,000 prize from the "Community Matters More"--a program sponsored by the Bangor Savings Bank Foundation. Over 90,000 ballots were cast throughout the State for non-profit organizations who do so much for the communities they serve. Thanks to everyone who took the time to vote for this important, fledgling group. The money will certainly help many animals in the River Valley area.
River Valley Animal Advocates Formed
The River Valley Animal Advocates, a non-profit animal welfare group, held its organizational meeting on Thursday evening, November 19, 2009, at the "Kitty" house--of one of Dixfield's most ardent animal lovers, Brenda Jarvis. Becky McDonald of Canton headed up the meeting with approximately 15-20 local area residents in attendance. The Board of Directors was chosen as follows:
Becky McDonald, Brenda Jarvis, Donna Rowe, Janine Archibald, Cindy Archibald, Brandon Archibald, Doleen Goodrow, Christle Alexander and DeAnn DeBaets (legal council)
Election of Officers was also held with the following filling the positions of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer:
President: Becky McDonald
Vice President: Brenda Jarvis
Secretary: Janine Archibald
Treasurer: Donna Rowe
The group meets on the second Thursday of each month, 6:00 p.m. at Dixfield Fire Station (rear). A local artist is also working with Doleen Goodrow to design a logo for use by the RVAA group.
The RVAA will be servicing towns in the greater River Valley through three, new projects:
Feral Cats - "Catch and Release Program" (as well as feeding)
Therapy Dogs - Certification Program
Helping the Elderly Pet Owner
Fundraising projects will be held throughout the area to help with the various needs of animals in the greater River Valley area. If you would like to join this budding new group to help all animals, please contact Becky McDonald at 597-2323 or Brenda Jarvis at 562-7316. Your help, time, money and compassion are needed to meet the many challenges that face some of our furry friends through abandonment, abuse, or sometimes relocation. Won't you help today?
